yousaywhatnowWhen duelling, Yuusei calls out his moves. This is actually one of the only times that he will speak aloud, in part because it's troublesome and frustrating to now, and in part because he's not all that talkative anyway, and this only made him less so.
While duelling, he gets what the other duelist is saying from an added feature he put into his Duel Disk which allows it to pick up what the opponent is saying, and transfer it to written words across the screen just above the duel information. He sees what they're doing through the digital display.
This ability of his duel disk to transcribe is also what allows him to hold 'conversations' while on the move. These conversations are pretty much the only time he'd be likely to bother with speaking outside of a duel each time, as there is literally no other way for the other person to hear him, and he has nothing else to concentrate on (such as duelling).
An example of this would be when he was riding alongside Crow, and later (although it hasn't happened yet from his perspective) Kiryu as well. In the case of more than one person talking, their speech will show up in a different colour, similar to how it does in movie subtitles.
